SpotOn Connections is set to open their 3rd European Office in early 2020 in Gozo. With offices already in Malta, Portugal, the current Gozo team are recruiting for a further 3 Trainee Recruiters!

I spoke with Joelle who is the Team Leader for the new Gozitan branch to find out more!

Joelle, how exciting to be opening a new office! What are you looking for in the new recruiters?

We are looking for people that will embrace the project of developing the Gozo team. We need applicants who will be committed to not only delivering a quality recruitment solution but also committed this project and their part in responsibility for developing and ensuring the SpotOn company culture is present in Gozo!

I am from Gozo, so this project is close to my heart. I am excited to be bringing jobs to the island and to be giving people the opportunity to move to Gozo as well!

For those reading this and wondering what recruitment career entails. What does the job of a trainee recruiter involve?

The job of a Recruiter is about speaking to people, learning about candidates’ motivations and expectations. Ultimately guiding job seekers throughout their career. As a team and as individuals we work hard to match quality job seekers with excellent career opportunities both in Malta and across Europe.

A typical day on the job will involve speaking to people and finding out what they are looking for, what their skills are and their expectations for a new career. Once we match a job seeker to a career opportunity, it doesn’t stop there. We provide interview preparation and support throughout the recruitment process and ongoing even after their first day of employment.

Do applicants need to have experience in recruitment?

The position comes with full training, so recruitment experience is not a requirement. It does require persistence, a strong moral compass and the drive to succeed. If applicants have experience in a service industry or from a Target Driven environment it would be beneficial.

When will the office be opening?

We aim to open the office in Q1 2020. However, the most important aspect first is to build and train that team. The first members of the Gozo Branch will be core of the office, they will help to recruit and train any future new hires, so it is imperative we build strong foundations before we open the doors.

Successful candidates will need to work initially from the Malta office, to receive training. After this we will open the office in Gozo. We are already viewing office premises!

You started with SpotOn Connections as a Trainee Recruiter. What would you tell anyone who is thinking about a career in recruitment?

It was not an easy start; the job is hard, but the training is comprehensive! If you are persistent, strive to learn and develop then anyone can succeed in the job. You just need to keep trying to be better today than you were yesterday and listen to your mentors and trainer’s advice.

Although tough, the job is extremely rewarding, and it can have a drastic change for the better on your lifestyle. I have been with the team now for over 5 years, I joined just before graduating and over the years I have been given countless opportunity to develop and reach my professional and personal goals. I am now in the position to mentor others to reach theirs!

I am sure a lot of people reading this will be living in Malta. Why should people consider a move to Gozo?

Gozo is a small island just off the coast of Malta and it’s a really nice place to live. Generally, the cost of living is cheaper than Malta but there is a great balance between the laid-back Mediterranean life and entertainment with events happening almost every weekend.

Gozo is largely untouched, with beautiful beaches and many historical landmarks. The crime rate is very low, you can enjoy a nice life here. We as Gozitans embrace tradition with huge celebrations for our village feasts. There is very little traffic, excellent public transport and the quality of life is fantastic.

There is also an ever-growing expat community in Gozo. So if you do not speak Maltese (Gozitan) don’t worry, you will be surrounded by not only English speaking locals but a lot of expats too!

What advice would you give those who are interested in this opportunity but not 100% sure?

Just give us a ring or come and meet us either in Malta or Gozo! The team is very friendly, and we will gladly have a coffee and chat about what a recruitment career means.
