HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER

Title:                                     Health and Safety officer
Reports to:                         Director
 
Primary Purpose:                            
 
Responsible for ensuring the design, implementation, monitoring and review of a comprehensive health & safety management system for the company (including selected subsidiaries) with the overall scope of preventing unsafe acts, injuries and ill health.
 
Main Duties:     
   
  1. To assist the company in evaluating risk, and to maintain monitoring of and compliance to relevant legislation (OHS; public health, etc);
  2. To improve H&S culture at all levels; reduce unsafe acts, practices or omissions within the company’s operations, as well as reduce the potential for harm;  to safeguard the interests of the company as well as those of the work force, and any parties who may be affected by our activities; to maintain overall control of relevant data / records / evidence.
Detailed Scope
  • Design, implement, monitor & review H&S policies;
  • Undertake detailed assessment of risk (premises; tasks; transportation & driving; installation/ repair/ maintenance activities;
  • Monitor implementation and effectiveness of recommendations;
  • Identify skills gaps within the work force;
  • Design and provide training programmes, and maintain records thereof;
  • Ensure that the accident/incident/near miss policy/procedure is implemented effectively;
  • Ensure that all accidents/incidents/near misses are reported, and duly investigated;
  • Undertake regular site visits (on-site; off-site);
  • Identify need for, and ensure or coordinate design of safe systems of work / method statements;
  • Coordinate system for ensuring safe provision and use tools/equipment/plants/machinery/vehicles;
  • Maintain relevant technical and safety related data / information;
  • maintain library with legislative / standards / guidance documents / industry best practice documentation.
  • To communicate and liaise with relevant parties (internal/external) as deemed necessary to manage H&S;
  • Diligently maintain relevant records, filing systems and evidence;
  • to recommend appropriate safety equipment, personal protective equipment and safety devices deemed pertinent to operations.
