Junior DBA
Our client’s expansion plans require that we recruit an Oracle DBA to join the DBA team within the Technical Services Department.
Responsibilities
-
Ensure that all in-house customer database staging systems are updated as required by the Project Management and Development Teams by performing data pump imports and exports.

Manage database configurations including installation, testing, maintenance and upgrades.

Carry out regular exercises to optimize the databases’ performance that supports the company’s applications.

Plan and execute regular database backups in accordance with the organisation’s disaster recovery plans and implement recovery procedures when necessary.

Proactively monitor the database production systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime according to SLAs.

Install and test new versions of Oracle Products and keep up-to-date with the latest releases and related Oracle Products.

Keep oneself updated with Oracle database security features and install and test these features in accordance with the Payment Card Industry standards.

Work out the recommended hardware requirements for running BANKWORKS based on the end-user volumes.

To ensure the best possible performance is achieved from the hardware by the application database during benchmark tests.

Contribute to the research and planning of scalable database systems.

Collaborate with and show interest in Systems / Network Administration and Systems Deployment

To ensure a high quality/standard of work and service throughout.

To perform any other duties which may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements
-
Preferably in possession of a university degree in computing and / or an Oracle certification.

Familiar with the use of tools that enable the selective access to information held within a database (e.g. SQL).

Experience in the installation and administration of Unix/Linux and Microsoft Windows environments.

A broad knowledge of IT infrastructure and IS applications.

Familiar with methods and techniques of business continuity and disaster recovery.
-
Possess good communication skills.
-
Perform under pressure and be willing to work long hours and be on-call.

Be able to deal with and solve problems quickly and accurately.

Strong organisational and time management skills, able to prioritise across different tasks and meet deadlines as per business objectives;

Self-motivated, reliable with a confident and flexible working attitude;

Fluency in written and spoken English;
