Job Details:
JUNIOR SYSTEMS & NETWORKS ENGINEER – BROADBAND SYSTEMS

· Take an active role in all activities related to dimensioning, implementation, configuration, operation and maintenance of active networking equipment (including their management and peripheral systems) within the outside plant infrastructure of the company, namely xDSL, GPON & Ethernet access network elements.

· Ensure that faults or other situations where service is negatively affected are being remedied within predefined time frames and that overall KPIs for system availability / service level are being adhered to through adherence to standards.

· Participate in the certification of equipment to be deployed within the access network in accordance with technological and quality standards set for proper integration with existing technologies.

· Act as end-level reference point for support to customers and colleagues with respect to Broadband Systems technologies, services and related procedures. This incorporates training to team members and other entities within the company as required with respect to Broadband Systems related technologies, services and procedures.

· Participate in corporate projects with IT and other departments, designing and implementing system architectures, and handling User Acceptance Tests to ensure high quality solution delivery.
Ideal Requirements:

· Proficient in Fixed Access Broadband Technologies (Copper, Fibre, DSL, GPON, Ethernet, IP)
-
· Proficient in the use of corporate IT systems (e.g. NITT, CRM, Dakar, Swift, IRIX etc.)
-
· Proficient in Fixed Access Network Planning concepts.

· Proficient in outside plant deployment practices and policies.
-
· Expertise in data manipulation and representation.
-
· Specialist in Broadband Systems (DSL, GPON, ETH etc)
Must have:
-
· Engineering/IT Degree.
-
· Experience in a cable/broadband plant design and build environment.
-
· Very good all-round Internet related technical skills.
-
· System Administration skills on Linux Flavors, mainly Red Hat & Cent OS.

· Database Administration skills, mainly on MySQL.
-
· Networking skills, Layer 2 & Layer 3.
-
· Presentation and communication skills (verbal and written).
-
· Very good problem diagnosis and solving skills;
-
· Programming skills, especially in scripting languages like Perl, Python, Ruby on rails.
-
· Candidates having experience of object oriented programming will be given preference.

· Initiative and works with minimal supervision;

· Common sense and a good attitude, is adaptable and sees a job to its end.

· Has good team work and coordination skills.

· Leadership, negotiation and communication skills.

· Is in possession of a valid driving license.
