The Company

Founded in 2001, our client is a privately owned software company that has developed an all-inclusive gaming platform that offers web publishing, account management and payment processing, as well as a range of pay-to-play games and bingo features.  The platform manages a high volume of members and processes over £1 billion a year in wagering. 


Purpose of Role

As part of the group’s ongoing expansion we are looking for a skilled and motivated individual to join our Technical Operations Team. This position is to be located in Malta.

As a member of the Technical Operations team, the Operations Engineer is responsible for ensuring optimal operation of the production Gaming Infrastructure.

Main duties will include:

·         Technical escalation point for the 24x7 NOC team, including on an on-call basis
·         Maintaining, upgrading, optimising and ensuring maximum uptime of Live and Pre-production environments
·         Troubleshooting and fixing (or escalating) application, network, system and database issues
·         Participating in the implementation of new system and infrastructure projects in conjunction with the Infrastructure Design team
·         Ensuring that systems monitoring setup is robust and properly structured
·         Assisting TAs/developers and QAs with tasks that require optimisations/modifications to the current infrastructure
·         Overseeing the preparation of environments for the testing of software releases, participate in the planning, scheduling and     execution of said releases
·         Preparing documentation and handover to NOC, for recurrent operational tasks
·         Management of GNL technical contracts portfolio and other ongoing operational costs (including participation in budgeting exercises and liaising with third parties)
·         Reporting to the Board on a monthly basis
·         Willingness to adopt  a work-to-finish attitude, recognising that in order to deliver projects on time working longer hours may at times be required
·         Willingness to travel for short periods, to carry out work when and if the need arises


Skills and Experience

The Operations Engineer must demonstrate excellent systems management, diagnostic and support skills in all areas of infrastructure. The candidate must be conversant in networking, server and storage technologies and well understanding of n-tier architectures. He or she has to have a broad range of skills and must be keen to acquire skills and experience in new areas of technology.

Knowledge and experience in the below areas is key to the role:

·         A proven track record in IT engineering 
·         Linux (preferably RPM-based) administration
·         Server virtualisation
·         Networking (preferably in Cisco / Juniper)
·         Good understanding of blade server technology
·         Enterprise systems management
·         Relevant understanding of IT security

Additionally, the Operations Engineer must have strong technical documentation skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Vision Design and proposal writing experience is also essential. 

Other desirable skills would be:

·         Web/App Servers Experience (e.g. Apache/Jboss)
·         Caching technologies (e.g. Terracotta)
·         Messaging technologies (e.g. ActiveMQ)
·         Public/Private Cloud experience
·         Scripting languages (e.g. bash) 
·         Object-oriented languages (e.g. Ruby, Java) 
·         Database administration experience (MySQL, DB2, SQL)
