TERRITORY RETAIL MANAGER (SPORT)
Salary: up to €40,000
 
Our client is a leading, award-winning representative of global brands in Africa, Italy and Malta. As a rapidly growing organisation, they are seeking to enhance their management team with the recruitment of Territory Retail Manager for the Sport division.
 
Reports to:  Business Director, Sport Division      Location:  Head Office Malta
 
Role purpose: 
 
Lead and manage store portfolio profitability by ensuring performance KPI’s for defined areas within the store are met or exceeded. The core expectations include coordinating team members to provide the best possible balance of sales, service and operations, resulting in a premium shopping experience.
Implement and drive operational excellence through the development and execution of store concept based operations strategy.
The Store Portfolio (Sports and House of Sports) include those in Malta and overseas, where we do not have in country management set up.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Strategy:
  • Contribute to the overall Sports Division Strategy by giving relevant input through an in depth knowledge of various markets, consumer behavior, shopper habits and distribution channels.
  • Lead and own the retail stores financial and business plans and planning process on individual store level; including annual sales and buying budget, store profitability targets, seasonal plans down to category, business unit, gender, style, color and size level.
  • Analyze sell through results and adjust seasonal forecasts accordingly.
  • Develop and implement overall retail operational strategy for managed concept stores.
  • Lead the planning process and execute versus operational business plan to deliver premium consumer experience in each store.
  • Develop and deliver merchandising strategy aligned with store concept consumer profile and store concept positioning.
 
Business Development:
  • Lead and support the expansion of own outlets and franchisee/partner locations through thorough market research and knowledge.
  • Recommend Shop Design (look and feel), and Shop Fit Out and work with central and local project managers to ensure timely openings.
  • Develop a Store opening program and Coach the Store Managers in the implementation of such.
  • Responsible for annual space expansion plan and budgets. Allocate available budget over maintenance, new openings and depreciation of existing space. Project expected revenue growth of annual space plan. Ensure space plan stays within budget. Report on quarterly basis to Business and Finance Director.
 
Operational excellence:
  • Develop and implement an own Sports Store Operating Standards program (policies and procedures) which includes store operations, logistics, financial modelling, hardware and software requirements, training needs, HR needs to secure a consistent level of operational performance of all own Sports Stores;
  • Create the operational business plan to maximize productivity, profitability and customer satisfaction levels throughout all stores
  • Develop and maintain Owned and Partner portfolio aligned with company brand & distribution strategies
  • Ensure all Sports Stores achieve compliance of store operating standards – oversee the consistency through reports, store commercial audits and visits to the store;
  • Identify areas for concept improvement (new fixture and vm fixture, change of lay-out, introduction of a new assortment, new customer service standards or training program, improved retail marketing and graphics support in the store) and secure support to execute throughout the organisation;
  • Ensure high standards of execution in the visual presentation, brand and commercial initiatives and customer service;
  • Support retail partners with partner specific operational solutions where required and beneficial to the business (e.g. specific IT or training programs for special partners);
  • Monitor returns, inventory, sell through and availability for each store to ensure an adequate product mix; Stay close to market where we are present to understand competitor activity and use this knowledge to provide input in the development of effective marketing strategy and plans;
  • Continually monitor the revenues and P&L for own Sports stores and identify issues and opportunities that could lead to higher sales and profit; In a timely manner address under-performing stores and support the stores with their recovery plans;
  • Uses advanced category expertise and enthusiasm for the Brand to drive sales and customer loyalty.
  • Minimizes loss by implementing, monitoring and tracking all loss prevention activities.
  • Understand customer expectations and coaches team to meet or exceed them at all times
  • Lead and support programs to enhance sales in the own Sports Stores. This includes but is not limited to mystery shopper programs, loyalty programs, employee motivation programs, etc;
  • Identify & share best practices across Sports Stores and lead process to implement.
  • Ensure effective Business Analysis and Buying function/process;
  • Execute in-dept review of the weekly results and follow up on opportunities/issues that may result into higher sales.
  • HR – work with the HR function on organisation design, recruitment and coaching/development of staff.
 Others:
  • Coaches, motivates and inspires individuals within area of responsibility to maximize and drive a performance culture.
  • Provide leadership to the Store Managers (direction, objectives, evaluation).
  • Ensure Store Managers are coached on store operating standards, staff training etc.
  • Provide coaching to the Store Managers to create and execute operational business plans incl. KPI performance goals, HR schedules, staff training & corporate initiatives.
  • Build a benchmark Retail Management team and identify talent for future senior roles in the retail organization.
 
REQUIREMENTS:
  • A graduate and/or Masters in related fields
  • Over 5 years’ experience retail/brand management
  • Experience in conducting contract negotiations with suppliers and partners
  • Proven track record in delivery of results and achievement of targets
  • Well-developed coordination and leadership skills (preferably gained in operational line management).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to motivate and inspire others, able to deal with suppliers, partners and employees
  • Ability to work across Company functions and levels, locally and overseas
  • Focused on continual change and adapting to meet dynamic environment
 
KPI’s:
  • Store level annual Budget and Business Plan. Timeline last Monday of every November
  • Achieve annual Gross Profit and Revenue targets per store (P&L)
  • Reach annual CR target on store level specified on Store Business Plan
