Noelia is our latest Recruitment Manager, in charge of the SpotOn Santiago de Compostela office. However, way before she reached this position, she started out as a humble Trainee Recruiter. This was a particular challenge as she had no prior experience. In this interview she gives us a bit of an inside perspective on what it’s like to be a SpotOn Connections Recruiter:

“It was a huge learning curve for me. I spent a lot of time learning, making interviews until two years later I became a Team leader and then we opened the Cascais office.

Noelia became a Team Leader in 2017, and helped start our SpotOn Portugal Office, making Santiago de Compostela the 3rd office she has worked in within the company.

As a company, we have a particular energetic team environment and culture. Could you tell us a bit more about why this is so?

Noelia: External recruitment is very intense, and also very emotional. I think it requires you to be productive, and to be curious and to always ask questions, thinking about the why. It takes a lot of mental energy, especially within a company where quality is our number 1 focus. The industries we recruit for our also very intensive.

When you put all of that into perspective, it is easy to see why it is important to celebrate both the small and big wins. These can be anything from sending a CV, to having a candidate get an interview or placing the candidate with a client.

Celebration is something every recruiter needs, as this helps you to keep going, and keeps you motivated as well. Like anyone else, recruiters won’t always be at their best. They will have their ups and downs, and the industry generates a lot of stress.

By celebrating, we keep our momentum going. We also relieve stress and spread positivity to our teammates as well. Teamwork is at the heart of our company culture.

Before settling back in Spain, you have worked for several years from Malta & Portugal. What would you tell someone who has just started working abroad?

Noelia: I think you can’t be afraid to take risks. Treat it as an opportunity. You can learn about plenty of cultures and build a career that might not be possible in your home country. I would recommend it to everyone. One thing that successful people share is constant curiosity. Invest time in being curious and proactive.
